[fic] Skin Regime

Title: Skin Regime
Author: [insanejournal.com profile] babygray
Pairings: faint (faint!) 1+2, and that's just background noise
Warning: Typos, probably, post-EW, talk of skin products that I have no contact with, really
Notes: I am not the sort of person that obsesses over skin care, but 'flawless' made me think 'skin', and here we are.
Word Count: 522
Summary: Hilde, hiding out from Relena's birthday party, finds herself examining all of the former queen's beauty products.

To keep her skin perfectly flawless, Relena adheres to a strict regime, using an ungodly amount of products, many of which Hilde have never bought and, in some cases, had never seen before in her entire life.

The only product she did recognize on Relena's 'beauty table', that old fashioned mahogany-and-steal vanity with its three mirrors set up to show all sides of her face as she sat in the matching chair, was cold cream. Its plain, white jar was greatly diminished by all the lotions and creams, exfoliates and astringents, scrubs and the odd little tub of very expensive, guano-based eye cream the girl had bought on a whim.

At least the cold cream was there to get some of that stuff off at night.

"Does she really need all this stuff?" she asked herself as she stared with morbid curiosity at a tube of blemish remover that claimed in German to 'eradicate bad skin'.

"There you are," Relena almost cooed with delight as she entered the bedroom. The pore minimizer she special-ordered from Tunisia must be working for she looked especially radiant. "What are you doing in my room when my birthday party's downstairs? Duo actually thought you went home."

It was amazing to Hilde that Duo noticed anyone else was at the party, considering the way Heero hung deliberately by him all night, succeeding to draw Duo towards him in ways she couldn't understand. Every time someone else caught Duo's attention, a silent smirk from Heero was more than enough to draw him right back.

No, Hilde wasn't jealous. More like angry.

She picked up a tiny, discreet jar with stylized hangol writing along the sides. "You do know this is made from nightingale poop?" she asked Relena.

"Yes, and it works wonders bleaching away my freckles," she said as she sat down in the vanity's little chair, the skirt of her rose-green dress tucked underneath her.

"You don't have any freckles," Hilde corrected.

"I know," Relena said conspiratorially as she checked her makeup in the mirrors. Picking up a bottle of lotion, she titled it towards Hilde. "You should try some of this. Your skin is so dry."

"Oh God, please tell me you're not one of those women," Hilde said as she took the bottle. In Spanish and Portuguese was the company's logo: For the Amazonian Beauty within you.

"What do you mean?" Relena asked, ghosting a hand over her hair to make sure all the curls pinned up and flowing down her bared back were still in place.

"You've just turned 18. You don't seriously think you need this stuff."

Relena's face turned coolly serious. "I may be 18 now, but we'll be in our thirties before we know it, and I want to make sure my skin stays this beautiful." She casted an eye towards Hilde. "And you should take care of your skin too, unless you want to be a wrinkled old thing at 40."

Satisfied with her looks for the moment, she rose from her seat and linked her arm around Hilde's elbow. "Now, come back downstairs with me. Dorothy promised me fireworks for the party."
