Pairing: None
Warnings: Typos. No beta.

Notes: Inspired by this photo on Daily Dose of Imagery: http://wvs.topleftpixel.com/10/07/03/ Bleum of Youth's "Stairway" was playing in the background as I was scribble-texting it down: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7a5cSTR51B4 Yes, it did take four minutes to write, and I wasn't going for depressed, and it's barely fanfiction, but yeah...
Word Count: 175
Summary: He stared, compelled to stay just a moment longer.
He stared at the towers, compelled by the sight to stay just a moment longer. The sky, peach and gray in the drying light, was silent. It carried no message for him. Only the towers were speaking, and their words were of sadness and isolation and loneliness.
Lights twinkled and flickered in the windows. Dark shapes conversed there, their laughter caught by the wind. They reached his ears, or so he thought they did, breathless and unsustainable.
He wrapped his cloak tighter around himself, not against the chill of the wind, but against the chill of his own heart. The light has nearly faded away, and so should he, this transient thing resembling a man. These towers were no longer his home. These shadows were no longer his to lurk within.
Yet there he stood, just at the edge where the water met the Woods, staring up at the towers with surprisingly dry eyes until night completely fell, and the lights flickering in the windows no longer shone.
